One table, two eras, Baroque and Modernism, carved from 96 layers
From one vantage point, the table reveals a Baroque silhouette, complete with expressive curves and ornamental detailing. From the opposite viewpoint, however, the profile transforms into that of a modernist table with a clean, simple outline. A fluid transition between these two views offers an elegant visual narrative of design evolving through time.
The table is composed of 96 CNC-cut layers of timber, each one subtly different from the last. As these layers progress, the Baroque profile gradually dissolves into the modernist one. The use of colour reinforces the concept of transformation. The colour palette draws inspiration from natural earth tones, including ochres, terracotta reds, mineral blues, muted greens, and warm browns. These colours are reminiscent of geological strata and mineral deposits. They are indicative of the passage of time in matter, echoing the transition from one historical period to another.
The table is manufactured by artisans in Abruzzo, Italy. Each timber layer is precision-milled using CNC technology and assembled with high-strength adhesives and concealed connections. The final piece is finished by hand to preserve the warmth and tactile richness of the material.
